Letak astronomis Indonesia : terletak di 6º LU – 11º LS dan 95º BT - 141º BT. Indonesia dilewati oleh garis equator (0º Lintang) yang menyebabkan Indonesia beriklim tropis.
- Garis lintang (vertikal) : U - S (berpengaruh terhadap iklim) di Indonesia beriklim tropis
- Garis Bujur (horisontal) : B - T (berpengaruh terhadap waktu) di Indonesia waktu di bagi menjadi 3, yaitu : WIB, WITA, WIT
Indonesia beriklim tropis karena terletak di daereah beriklim tropis yaitu masih ada di dalam 23.1/2º LU - 23.1/2º LS.
Letak geografis Indonesia : letak suatu wilayah / daerah dilihat dari kenyataan di permukaan bumi.
- Indonesia terletak di antara 2 benua : Benua Asia dan Benua Australia
- Indonesia terletak di antara 2 samudra : Samudra Hindia dan Samudra Pasifik
Wilayah Indonesia berada pada posisi silang yang mempengaruhi perekonomian Indonesia.
Letak geologis Indonesia : Letak suatu wilayah dilihat dari jenis batuan yang ada di permukaan bumi.
Indonesia dilalui oleh 2 jalur pegunungan muda, yaitu:
- Pegunungan Mediterania (di sebelah Barat) : Peg. Alphen => Daratan Eropa => Asia => Asia Tenggara => Indonesia bagian Barat => daerah laut Banda.
- Pegunungan Sirkum Pasifik (di sebelah Timur) : Peg. Andhes (Amerika Selatan) keutara => Peg. Roki (Amerika Serikat) => Peg. Alaska (Amerika) => Asia (meliputi Jepang, Filiphina, Indonesia, dll.) => berakhir di laut Banda. dan terletak di 3 dangkalan, yaitu: Dangkalan Sunda, Dangkalan Sahul, dan Laut Pertengahan Australia Asiatis.
Kesimpulan : Letak Indonesia dapat dilihat dari letak astronomis, geografis, dan geologisnya.
Note :
- Sirkum = lingkar
- Adanya 2 jalur pegunungan tersebut menyebabkan Indonesia banyak memiliki gunung api yang aktif dan rawan terjadinya gempa bumi.
- Karena bertemuya 2 jalur pegunungan tsb. Laut Banda sering terjadi Tsunami (dari bahasa Jepang yang berarti "Tsu" pelabuhan, "nami" gelombang) yang berarti gelombang pelabuhan. Gempa bumi, pergeseran lempeng / gunung meletus didasar laut. Dapat terjadi karena dasar laut bergerak secara tiba-tiba dan mengalami perpindahan vertikal.
- Indonesia juga terletak pada pertemuan 3 lempeng tektonik, yaitu: Lempeng Indo-Australia, Lempeng Eurasia, dan Lempeng Pasifik
